Guide Review - SecuBox Review – Protect Your Digital Files & Passwords with One Application
Encrypt Your Files for Added Security
SecuBox is able to protect confidential information stored on Windows Mobile PDAs and smartphones, Windows CE handhelds, and media cards used in these devices. By protecting your information using encryption, you'll ensure that sensitive information doesn't get into the wrong hands, even if you should lose your PDA.
SecuBox works by creating a secure container in which you can store your confidential files. All files stored within a SecuBox container are protected with standard AES 256-bit encryption. To use SecuBox for the first time, you simply install the program (a trial version is available), create a volume, assign a password to that volume, and then save files to that encrypted volume. All of the files saved within a volume are automatically encrypted.
For easy organization, you can create multiple SecuBox volumes if you like. Anytime you want to access a file that's stored in a SecuBox volume, you must mount the volume and enter your password. Once the volume is mounted, you can easily browse to files within the SecuBox volume just as you would any other file on your PDA. Another nice feature of SecuBox is that it can automatically "unmount" your SecuBox volume whenever the device goes into sleep mode. This protects your information by ensuring that no other user is able to access your sensitive files without knowing your password.
SecuBox as a Password Wallet
During the course of a week, you likely enter a number of different passwords to enter sites such as your online bank account, email, social networking sites, etc. Many people use one or two passwords across many different sites, but this isn't really the best idea for security. For most of us, managing unique passwords for each and every login is nearly impossible without writing them down, however.
By creating a simple text document or spreadsheet on your PDA with login information, you can easily keep track of unique logins for each site. Of course, I wouldn't recommend doing this without encrypting and securing that list. SecuBox provides a way to do just that.
By storing your list of login information in a SecuBox volume, you can avoid using weak passwords or reusing a single password and still have the peace of mind that comes from knowing your information is secure. There are other password management programs available, but as Aiko Solutions points out, one of the benefits to using SecuBox for this functionality is that you also have the ability to protect other information and files as well from a single program.
