Given the amount of power and functionality that Dell crammed into the Axim X50v, this handheld is surprisingly small and lightweight. This PDA weighs approximately 6.2 ounces and measures 4.7 x 2.9 x 0.7 inches (H x W x D). The Axim X50v has four shortcut buttons, a five-way navigation button, and a stylus. This handheld runs on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and comes with Media Player 10 Mobile; pocket versions of Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer; and MSN Messenger.
Strengths
The Axim X50v has built-in 802.11b wireless to keep you connected while on the go. Realizing that these wireless capabilities can quickly drain your PDA's batter when not in use, Dell makes it very easy to turn on and off the wireless functionality using a shortcut button on the side of the device.
For even greater battery savings, Dell also included a display lock button on the side of the handheld. This is especially useful when you're carrying the PDA to prevent accidentally powering on the device during transit. It's also useful if you're watching a movie on the handheld and don't want the screen to be accidentally powered off.
The Axim X50v also boasts of excellent graphics, thanks to its 16MB Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator.
Weaknesses
I occasionally experienced an unresponsive display while testing this handheld. The problem was usually easily resolved by cleaning the screen and/or hard resetting the handheld.
All Things Considered
Even though I experienced occasional display issues, I really enjoyed using this handheld and think it's a great PDA for many users to consider.
