Why Should I Backup My PDA?

By Jennifer Johnson, About.com

Question: Why Should I Backup My PDA?
Answer:

Your PDA contains a lot of valuable information about your life and your business. As a result, it’s a good idea to back up your PDA regularly. Without a backup, you’d have to recreate all of the information on your PDA if something would happen that would render your PDA useless or if it were to become lost or stolen. This can be very time consuming.

Thankfully, PDA manufacturers make it very easy to back up the data on your PDA by synchronizing with a computer. By synchronizing regularly, you’ll always have a duplicate copy of your calendar, email, contacts, and other synchronized items.

Many times, synchronizing with a computer does not back up the programs that you’ve installed on your PDA. As a result, some users also prefer to back up their PDA to a flash memory card using a backup program installed on the PDA. Many of these separate backup programs can copy everything on your PDA to a single file that can be restored at a later date should you need it.

Regardless of which back up method you choose, it’s a good idea to keep a copy of your backed up data in a secure location that is separate from your PDA.
