How To Charge Your HP iPAQ Using a Computer

You can charge your iPAQ using a USB cable and your computer.

Most HP iPAQ PDAs have a USB Charging feature that enables you to charge your PDA through your computer’s USB port. This feature is particularly useful for people who travel regularly or who use multiple computers and need to be able to charge without carrying a separate power adapter.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes or less for setup, charging time varies

Here's How:

  1. Using the computer-charging feature on your iPAQ, you can set the rate of charge to suit your preferences. To activate this feature, tap Start, then Settings, and navigate to the System tab. Next, tap the Power icon and select the tab labeled USB Charging. You’ll want to check the box next to Use USB Charging to enable the iPAQ to charge while it’s connected to a PC via a USB cable.
  2. After you’ve enabled USB charging, you’ll want to select one of the two charging options. A Slow charge will charge your PDA at a low power setting over a longer period of time. This option is best when you don’t need to recharge your device quickly, such as when you can leave the iPAQ plugged into the computer overnight. You won’t want to use your PDA while it’s charging in this mode, and it’s a good idea to turn off the screen while using this charging method.
  3. If you intend to use your iPAQ while it is charging, or if you need the device to be recharged in a short amount of time, the Fast charge method is better. Recognizing that many of us are in a hurry, HP sets this as the default charging option. Fast charging provides more power and charges more quickly than the Slow charge method. It’s important to note that this method will cause your battery to heat up more than the Slow charge method, which could potentially reduce the life of your battery over a period of time.

Tips:

  1. Use the Slow charging method to charge your PDA at a low power setting over a longer period of time, such as when you can leave the iPAQ plugged into the computer overnight.
  2. Select the Fast charging method when you need a quick power boost.
  3. If you are using a laptop to charge your iPAQ, make sure it has plenty of battery life or is plugged into a power outlet.
