Connect a Windows Mobile PDA to a Bluetooth Keyboard

By , About.com Guide

One of the ways we can expand the functionality of our PDAs is by connecting peripherals, such as a wireless keyboard. Although various connection methods exist, wireless is certainly convenient, particularly for frequent travelers who don’t want to deal with toting extra cables. Here, we’ll take a closer look at how to enable Bluetooth and create a partnership between devices. For the purposes of this article, we’ll use a Windows Mobile PDA and a Stowaway Universal Bluetooth keyboard. Although some steps may vary depending on your devices, the overall concept should remain the same.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: approximately 30 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Before you can create a connection between your PDA and keyboard, you may need to install a driver from a CD that accompanies the keyboard. If this is necessary, do so by following the on-screen instructions.

  2. The next step is to enable Bluetooth on your PDA. Do so by tapping Start, then Settings.

  3. Choose the Connections tab and select the Bluetooth icon to open the Bluetooth Settings menu.

  4. From here, tap the on-screen button to turn on Bluetooth.

  5. Now that Bluetooth is enabled, you’ll want to make sure your keyboard is in discoverable mode. If you’re unsure how to do this, refer to the keyboard’s user manual.

  6. With Bluetooth actively running and any applicable drivers installed, tap Start, and then Programs.

  7. From the Programs listing, choose Stowaway Keyboard (or the program that’s applicable to your device.)

  8. Choose Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and then click Setup.

  9. On the next screen, tap New Connection.

  10. Select Scan to tell your PDA to search for the keyboard.

  11. Once the keyboard appears, select it and tap Connect. After a connection is established, you should be able to use the keyboard.
