Wi-Fi is a type of wireless networking that uses the 802.11 wireless local area network standard. Wi-Fi has gained wide acceptance as an alternative to a wired network connection. Locations with Wi-Fi access are known as hot spots.
Some hot spots charge a daily or an hourly rate for access while others are completely free. In addition, many users create their own hot spot at home by creating a home wireless network. PDAs that are Wi-Fi enabled can send and receive email and surf the Web directly from a handheld whenever a hotspot is accessible.
