Palm OS is the operating system that was initially developed by Palm for use on handheld devices such as PDAs. The Palm OS was developed in 1996 and has undergone many revisions since it was first created. The operating system provides a suite of basic applications for information management, including a calendar, contact list, task list, and note taking capabilities.
The Palm OS has also commonly been referred to as Garnet OS, which is the latest version of the operating system. In addition to being used on PDAs, some of the more recent versions of this operating system have also been used on Palm’s Treo line of smartphones. Several other manufacturers have also licensed the Palm OS.
In 2009, Palm announced that it will switch from Palm OS to webOS for future devices.
