Your PDA has limited storage capacity built-in to the handheld. Thankfully, most PDAs also have a memory card expansion slot that lets you add additional storage capacity quickly and easily. What’s more, because you can use multiple storage cards with your PDA (only one at a time, in most cases), you can basically have unlimited storage potential for your PDA.

Another benefit to using memory cards is they make it easy to transport information from one device to another. For example, you could use your PDA as a portable photo viewer if your digital camera and your PDA accept the same type of memory.

Memory cards vary in shape, size, and capacity. SD (Secure Digital), miniSD, microSD, and CF (CompactFlash) are some of the most common memory card formats used in PDAs. Although SD and CF are the two most popular formats used in PDAs, some users will prefer to use a miniSD or microSD with an adapter so that the card can also be used in other devices (such as a cell phone or music player) as well as in their PDA.

Numerous manufacturers produce each type of card. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at various memory card storage formats so you can have a better idea as to which type of memory your PDA can use.
