Last week, I broke the bad news that Windows Phone 7 Series won't offer multitasking or support memory cards. At the Mix10 conference, Microsoft also broke the news that Windows Phone 7 Series won't offer copy and paste functionality. Instead, the OS will attempt to predict when you would want such functionality and offer a single-tap alternative. For example, the OS may recognize a phone number and provide a one-tap option to call the number or add it to your address book.
Considering current and previous Windows Mobile devices offer copy and paste functionality, this seems like a step backward to me. Sure, one-tap alternatives are nice, but why can't we have both options? I know there are many times I copy data on my PDA from one area to another, and I doubt that there will be one-tap alternatives each time I want them. Let's hope Microsoft rethinks this move and offers copy and paste again soon.
